So What The Heck is an Eventron™??
…and why are we studying them?
Introduction
To answer the question above, we need to use
our imaginations to view the world first in a static mode, then
in a dynamic one. When we see things statically, everything is
motionless. Behavioral models frequently rely on this method to
describe the world around us. You take a snapshot and evaluate
what is in the picture. Take several snapshots in a row and you
begin to describe dynamic motion.
We then use our imagination to apply predictable rules that can
explain the change from one snapshot to the next. However, we
must be careful to avoid claiming that all our understanding of
what we see is complete. What is beyond the picture can be as
important or even more so than what we see in our narrow focus.
Sometimes our past experience can lead us to false interpretations
or extrapolations from what we see in the picture.
Einstein said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge".
He noted that knowledge is always changing. What we thought we
knew gets disproved day after day. However, imagination is never
fixed and always expanding. Knowledge and imagination will forever
co-exist, but your perception of which is more important determines
how you make use of these two ways of conceptualizing our world.
For example corporate leaders imagined great strides from continuous
improvement. They got what they envisioned: great strides resulted
from their efforts. However, this first wave of improvement systems
was based on a model that valued data over the imagination that
had engendered the systems. Thus a fundamental aspect shared by
all corporate Improvement Initiatives today is a strong emphasis
on "Data Filled Knowledge".
Stepping into the Einsteinian perspective, we at Eventronics reviewed
what we knew about corporate improvement models. We allowed imaginational
realms to have an important place along with data systems. Imagination-filled
views opened a new world to us that data-filled realities had
kept obscured to other pioneers. We saw a new model that combined
data and imagination into a more precise description of the real
world.
At Eventronics we view reality from a perspective of potential
and kinetic forces and definable components that together describe
cause and effect relationships. By using a better lens through
which to view all elements of a system, we can methodically design
improvement solutions that are more natural and meet with less
resistance than their forebears.
To be effective, all models need a structure that defines reality.
They must also be flexible enough to help us create alternative
structures that can yield better outcomes. We have first and foremost
discovered a model that accurately describes reality. This model
explains why we have missed opportunities given the current orientation
of our systems and how we can re-orient them and even create new
ones to serve us better. That model is called EventFlow™
Theory.
